Journey to Becoming a Craniosacral Therapist
Early Beginnings in Alternative Health
From a very young age, I was naturally drawn to the world of alternative health. This interest led me to explore various healing modalities early on. I began my journey by completing Reiki I and II trainings, delving into the subtle energy work that Reiki offers. Following this, I trained in Colour Light Therapy, a fascinating method that works with the cellular intelligence of the body, using the vibrational energy of colors to promote healing. My exploration continued with a qualification in massage therapy, allowing me to offer physical relief and relaxation through hands-on techniques.
Discovering Craniosacral Therapy
Despite these explorations, I often felt that something was missing. I recognized a sense of something greater than us, a larger interconnectedness, while also understanding the importance of being here, now, and embodied. While following a career path in teaching, I sought something that could support my busy work life. It was then, over 20 years ago, I had my first experience with craniosacral therapy, a moment that would anchor my passion and curiosity for this gentle yet profound healing practice. The immediate and lasting benefits I experienced from that first treatment captivated me. Craniosacral therapy not only sustained my health and wellbeing but also provided a sanctuary of calm and balance amidst my busy and demanding lifestyle as a teacher, Head of Department, and Housemistress in a state-run boarding school.
From that transformative first session, I knew that I wanted to dedicate myself to working in the field of craniosacral therapy. The gentle, non-invasive approach resonated deeply with my belief in the body's innate ability to heal and maintain health. My journey towards becoming a qualified practitioner began in earnest, and in July 2012, I proudly qualified as a Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapist after training with some of the UK's leading practitioners.
Integrating Therapy into Life and Family
Craniosacral therapy has since become an integral part of my life and that of my family. My husband and children have also become enthusiasts, finding the same profound benefits that first drew me to this therapy. It is immensely rewarding to witness the positive impact it has on their health and wellbeing.
Belief in the Body’s Intelligence
I hold a firm faith in the body's intelligence and its inherent ability to heal. Craniosacral therapy aligns perfectly with this belief, as it helps to unlock trauma and promote health through gentle, supportive techniques. Each session is a reminder of the incredible resilience and wisdom within the human body. Assisting others on their healing journeys, helping them to release trauma and restore balance, continues to be one of the most fulfilling aspects of my work.
Conclusion
My journey from a young enthusiast of alternative health to a qualified Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapist has been deeply rewarding. The diverse experiences and training in various healing modalities have enriched my practice, allowing me to offer a comprehensive, holistic approach to health and wellness. Craniosacral therapy is not just my profession; it is a passion that has profoundly shaped my life and the lives of those around me.
I am a qualified teacher and have an enhanced DBR and I am a certified First Aider. I am fully insured and a member of the CSTA and comply to their Code of Ethics and membership requirements. I am also a member of The International Affiliation of Biodynamic Trainings.
From September 2022 - June 2024, I volunteered as an additional body in a new CST training programme with Circle Cranio. This opportunity has not only allowed me to update my skills and knowledge, deepen my understanding of this work, and absorb the invaluable knowledge and wisdom of Tracy Evans, Jo Coole and guest lecturer, Katheryn Ukleja; but it has opened up a whole new field of opportunities within this line of work.
