Craniosacral Therapy for Babies and Children
Unlike sessions for adults, my approach with children is tailored to their unique needs and preferences. Children are encouraged to explore and move around freely, engaging in play with toys during their sessions. Hands-on treatment is interspersed with interactive play to create a comfortable and engaging environment. Additionally, children are welcome to sit on a parent or caregiver's lap during the session, fostering a sense of security and connection.
I work intuitively with children, prioritising the establishment of trust and rapport. Throughout the session, children may express their needs by holding hands over mine or indicating when they no longer wish for physical contact. It's important for children to feel empowered to express themselves during the treatment, as long as their behaviour is not harmful.
Children often struggle to articulate their emotions directly and may manifest them through physical sensations like stomach aches or restlessness. Craniosacral Therapy offers a non-verbal avenue for addressing these emotional distress signals, providing a holistic approach to well-being.
Craniosacral Therapy for babies
Few mothers would claim that birth, however rewarding, is without pain, hard work, and often exhaustion. However, it’s also important to acknowledge that for babies, birth can be confusing, frightening, and painful as they undergo compressive and other forces during their journey through the birth canal.
Newborns have limited ways to express themselves. While we recognise they cry from hunger or a full nappy, they also cry to seek comfort for the shock and pain of birth. Babies may kick their legs or arch their backs, re-living the struggle and twists of the birth process. These behaviours often indicate discomfort, and Craniosacral Therapy can help alleviate these feelings.
The journey through the birth canal involves compression and subsequent expansion as the baby is born, helping their systems adjust to life outside the womb. Ideally, the bones of the head overlap to fit the pelvis and then expand after birth. However, even natural, problem-free births can result in issues like colic, respiratory difficulties, or feeding challenges due to misalignments in the jaw and palate. Assisted births and Caesarean sections bring their own set of challenges.
Craniosacral Therapy is a wonderful way to support the beginning of life, regardless of how that entry into the world has occurred. Whether your child experienced a natural birth, a Caesarean section, or an assisted delivery, Craniosacral Therapy provides gentle, non-invasive support to help them adjust and thrive.
Babies and children can face numerous challenges at various stages of development. Craniosacral Therapy offers a valuable resource for helping your child resolve birth-related issues and achieve better health and well-being. Addressing and resolving symptoms or imbalances at an early age can prevent them from becoming major issues later in life.
While Craniosacral Therapy is a valuable complement to traditional healthcare, it is essential to remember that it does not replace medical treatment. If there are any concerns about a child's health, I strongly recommend consulting a doctor. I am committed to collaborating with medical professionals to ensure the child receives comprehensive care and support.
For the caregiver investing in these treatments, it is recommended to plan for six sessions to achieve the best outcomes.
